Juki HLZ 35Z Sewing Machine Review

Very modern sewing machine that is simple to use

Rating:

By Lorraine Beaulieu

The last time I sewed was approximently 20 years ago in a home economics class. For a beginner like me the Juki HLZ 35Z is extremely easy to use. This sewing machine has wonderful illustrations embossed on it to explain which way the thread goes and other useful information. There is absolutely no need to consult the manual the majority of the time. This machine is much easier to use than those that were used 20 or so years ago. It is built with quality materials and not the cheap flimsy materials that other sewing machines may be constructed of. I was a bit skeptical at first of purchasing this model because of the lack of amount of reviews online. This machine has been a perfect example of what this name brand portrays itself to be. Juki is the brand used most by professional tailors etc. and they definitely did not skip out on the quality during construction.

I have heard so many good things about the Juki brand, but was hesitant at first about purchasing one due to the fact that they mostly make industrial sewing machines. So far this sewer has exceeded my expectations and it has been a great little sewing machine. I have made several different items including dresses, seat covers, and even baby carriers. It has held up perfectly with all that is thrown at it. It will delay a bit when sewing heavy layers but if I slow the pace down a little it works wonderful. You may want to go for the upgraded model if you are looking to sew alot of heavy materials. This particular model is super and I feel that it would be a great machine for those at the beginning stages because it clearly tells you which stitches are used for each sewing process. The Juki is not fussy regarding tension and winds up a perfect bobbin. It is amazingly engineered and well marketed for beginners use.

Juki TL98QE High Speed Sewing Machine Review

Small and solid sewing and quilting machine

Rating:

By Jonni Laurie

The Juki TL98QE is a solid small industrial strength sewing machine constructed with heavy duty metal parts. It is a simple to use and very fast and durable. It delivers straight stitch and comes standard with several handy feet, which includes a hopping quilting foot ideal for free motion designs. I chose this one to use on a quilting frame, but have kept my beloved 1980’s Pffaf for piecing. If you are looking for a little mid arm machine the Juki is an excellent choice.

I have owned this little sewing machine for a year and it has sewn through all the ideas I have thrown it’s way, trust me it has been alot. From the simple skirts to the vest and the soft toys it has not missed a beat, it is so simple and easy to sew with. The Juki has a wide range of useful customizing for sewing with needle placement, stitch length, and even a maximum speed which is very useful for the small pieces. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a nice sewing and quilting machine.

Singer Futura CE-250 Sewing Machine Review

New to embroidery and love this machine

Rating:

By Noreen Blanks

I bought the Singer Futura CE-250 because I was interested in learning how to embroider but I wasn’t interested in spending a fortune. To me, this machine is a great value as it is built very solidly and sews excellent right out of the box it came in. I found that the sewing sensors are very good at letting you know when something is wrong but it did take me a few tries to get used to putting the thread through them.

If you are new to sewing and machine embroidery you should realize that the Singer needs to be hooked upto a computer while embroidering. The software will let the sewing machine know about the colors and I found that an old computer would work just fine. Mine is several years old and handles this task with no problems. Just something to consider if you don’t already have one that you can use with the Futura.

From what I could tell, the main difference between the 250 and 350 Futura sewing machines is the software. If you are going to create your own embroidery designs then the basic software on the CE-250 might not cut it. You can upgrade but perhaps you should just buy the 350 instead. I am confident that with a little practice using both the machine and the software I will be creating the embroidery stitches that I have wanted to for many years. And I am having a lot of fun learning.

I am quite happy with the Singer Futura and would recommend it to others who enjoy sewing and other embroidery projects. I haven’t found any faults with the machine and the reviews I read were quite positive, even on their other models.

Brother LS2125I Free Arm Sewing Machine Review

Nice machine for basic sewing and crafting

Rating:

By T. Hamilton

I typically use the Brother LS2125I 10 stitch sewing machine to do some easy lingerie slips and other items so I don’t have a lot of experience stitching. Even though I am a newbie I am surprised with the quality of this machine. In my opinion, the threading is quite easy but I find that I do have to use a paper clip as one other review stated to get the thread by the take up lever. I am also getting used to the tension lever as it sometimes causes bunching up during use.

The Brother LS2125I came with some common accessories including a zipper, button sewing feet, buttonhole, handy needle set, darning plate, as well as an extra spool pin. I didn’t have any trouble reading and understanding the manual but I do feel you need to study it to get the most out of this sewer. That’s probably the case with most sewing machines as they have their little quirks but I’m not experienced enough to know for sure. I have found that when I’m sewing heavy duty fabric that I need to change the needle size as well as the foot. I also like the 10 stitches as it gives a nice variety to whatever you are trying to sew.

Overall I like this machine and am glad I purchased it. It has renewed my interest in sewing.

Janome 7330 Sewing Machine Rating

Well built machine that is simple to use

Rating:

By Bryn Weston Jacksonville, FL

I recently bought the Janome 7330 sewing machine. I am a first time sewer and didn’t want to spend a lot of money so this was one of the machines I was looking at. I wanted an embroidery or sewing machine that I could really grow into as my skills improved but also wanted something that was not difficult to use. I read a lot of reviews online and was drawn to the Janome lineup. Brother seemed to have a lot to offer as well but something drew me to the 7330 and I’m glad I made the leap of faith. I actually went to a local store to look at the various models and all the Janomes I saw were very well built. This is important to me.

Even though I am a novice, 20 minutes after opening the box I was off and running and beginning to sew my first project. Now mind you I had never even used any machines before so that tells you just how easy this model is to use. There were no strange tricks to master and no weird quirks at all. Just a solidly built, easy to use sewer.

The Janome 7330 is computerized and includes 5 different overcast stitches, three one step button holes, a lot of decorative stitches, and one darning stitch. The foot pedal works pretty good although it is not required for use. The free arm has been great for me for doing the smaller holes for the clothing I stitch together. These handy machines also come with an automatic needle threader for those who are not accomplished doing this. It is very simple to wind the bobbin as you just open up the lid and drop it in the hole. Doesn’t get easier than that.

Another nice change was the instruction manual. It is easy to follow for even the novice enthusiast. It also comes with an all purpose presser foot, a satin foot, a zipper foot, and a button foot. There are many other accessories that are included which are not included with some of the other comparable machines.

Overall, I recommend the Janome 7330 as it is a solid machine. It’s easy to use and built to last, without a huge price tag.

Singer 7442 Electronic Sewing Machine Rating

Good embroidery machine with some things that need work

Rating:

By Holly Gilbert

I purchased the Singer 7442 sewing machine to replace an older Brother model that finally failed after 14 long years of use. One thing that struck me right away was the embroidery quality of it as compared to the other machines I have used. It is far superior to them and quite a delight. Overall more stitches are rendered and they are of higher quality. While it is a noisy sewing machine the action on it is very smooth.

Since it is a Singer I was expecting it to be built of high quality materials and it did not disappoint. For some reason I wasn’t expecting it to be as greatly constructed as it was but again, I was happy with this aspect. But to be honest, there are a couple of negative features that I feel I should point out.

I have found that the 7442 is not all that responsive to the presser foot and this is something that takes some getting used to. My former embroidery machines would stop and start directly with the presser but this sewing machine goes a couple extra stitches after my foot is completely off. If I plan ahead I can compensate but I feel this should be corrected at a future time. Another thing that bothers me is the needle always goes back to the up position so when you turn the corner or do something where you need the needle in the down position you have to manually crank it a half stitch. There also is an annoying needle threader that hangs right in front of the needle and it always seems to be in your way.

All in all this is a quality sewing machine with a couple minor faults. Some of the other machines are cheaper but the quality of them is not up to par, in my opinion. If Singer made a couple adjustments I would give it a perfect score but for now it gets 4 stars.

Brother CS6000I 60-Stitch Free-Arm Sewing Machine

A low priced sewing machine with a lot of value

Rating:

By Joan Hartley Boston, USA

The Brother 60 stitch computerized sewing machine presents a great value for the money today. I find this to be one of the easiest to use machines you can find and the manual that comes with it is surprisingly helpful. This model comes with just about every foot and accessory you would ever need, and in reality there are no other accessories available for it. Most of the other embroidery and sewing machines we looked at had many different add-ons that would cost more money but not this unit from Brother. I appreciated the fact that they were looking out for their customers.

If you haven’t looked at the modern machines then you will be in for a treat. This is a fully computerized, automatic needle threading, push of a single button sewing machine that puts out lots of fun and unique stitches in no time. I find myself inventing things to sew just so I can use it. I cannot recommend this machine more than I do, and I have owned quite a few other machines. This one is quiet and puts out a very nice stitch when you are done. Plus it is a blast to use.

I am quite the sewing enthusiast. Since I liked this model so much I have gone on to buy a Brother Serger as well as the Brother Innovis, which even at several hundred dollars I found it to be a big bargain. When I sew I need the best equipment so I don’t look for the cheapest at all. One thing I liked about the CS6000I is that it uses the same bobbins and feet as the pricier models from other companies and still has more attachments. All of this for less money.

I have since discovered that the Brother 60 stitch is the same machine that some of the other large sewing and quilting expos have on hand for their workshops. They are lightweight, very reliable, easy to learn on, and not that expensive. What more could you ask for?
